::NEWS:: [wire ]transmissions.
07-06-08 we're mixing the new record. we're still kicking around album titles. ideas? i apologize for falling behind on my monthly commitment to the "kara thrace and her special destiny" covers page. the last couple months have been consumed with recording the allegra gellar record, tinkering with some other projects, a massive amount of retouching and watching the real kara thrace on BSG. -- i'll get back into gear soon. i hope. we did finish our cove of "leave me alone" by new order. but, since it's planned for release on a tribute record, i don't think i should post it on our site right now.
03-23-08 we're mostly settled into the new loft. we still need a couple things...a new dresser...a table top, etc. the studio is set up and arranged, but most of the cables and power chords still need to be put into place. we had our first, very informal, rehearsal yesterday for our upcoming club violaine show. looks like it's going to be interesting. once again, denver, olive, and i will play as a three piece. (george is still taking a break from the live efforts) - but this time we're going without programming or samplers. mostly a straight up guitar/bass/drum lineup. possibly one small keyboard. i posted another cover on the kara thrace and her special destiny page. "like a prayer". i really wanted to wait awhile to post this one. but, with the move, i haven't been able to record any of the new covers i'm working on. "like a prayer" isn't my favorite. dan and i had fun with it. but, i think it sounds too much like some of the other covers. only, it's not done as well. olive dared me to try a madonna song. honestly, i can't sing it very well. it does get better as the song goes on. some upcoming covers..."devil town" by daniel johnston (i'm really covering the bright eyes version)..."you're all i need" by radiohead (yeah...ambitious)..."prayer for the paranoid" by mojave 3 (we'll be playing this one at club violaine)...and another version of "you're love" (with denver)
03-14-08 we're moving house. 2 blocks south. going offline today. packing the gear up. should be back in action early next week. all music for the new record is recorded and arranged. the vocals will be completed shortly after the move. excited.
02-02-08 can i keep up this cool game with the dates that i post news? i guess we'll find out on 03-03...? the news. i have posted 4 instrumental underwater tracks on the underwater myspace page. there is also a blog explaining the little there is to know about them. we'll be playing another show at old town pub later this month. there will be two new tracks posted on the kara thrace page within the next few days. keep an eye out. one will be my cover of "listen to her heart" by tom petty...performed with dan kopton on drums and denver on bass, acoustic 4 string guitar, and electric guitar. the other track will be a contribution from george. he has done a haunting version of "take my breath away". also, just as we were nearly finished with the upcoming 6 track ep called, "the allegra gellar ep", we decided to add three more songs and make it the fourth full length allegra gellar release. now, we have to think of a new title...expect the new full length around summer. it's going to be quite good and very different from our previous releases...the first actual collaboration between george, denver and i. hmm...looks like i could be the new keyboardist for hello dragon. that's exciting and fun. finally, as george said, "i've been drinking some of the obama kool-aid". you should too. the man is the real deal.
01-01-08 HAPPY NEW YEAR WEBSITE. the news, once again, is that we have a new website. a complete overhaul this time. new details include...a writing section with all of the allegra gellar lyrics and a few stort stories written by, well. myself...the online store now includes releases by all of our musical projects, allegra gellar, the other also, underwater, etc. there is also a new download section where you can get mp3s and printable artwork rather than physical cds. we have a special projects section which will be regularly updated with random goodness. for starters there is a collection of electronic music masquerading as "the futurist party" and a collection of cover songs masquerading a "kara thrace and her special destiny"....and there are videos. well, as of now, there is one video, but we are working on two more to be added in the next few months. COMING SOON - photo prints by denver will be slowly added to the store. NEW RELEASE!! - check out the download section of the store for our new 3 track single for "under the milky way". recorded this past fall...it's olive's debut recording session. **the new site is designed to make updating easier for me and more interesting for all of you...so, i promise to keep it more fresh than versions in the past. i guess that's some sort of new years resolution? dig in...there is a lot to this thing.
...archived news from old website... 08-07-2007 hmm? news. not too much newsworthy these days. we have played some shows and we have a couple more scheduled. we are also working on some new demos with the full band. pretty standard band fare. hopefully we'll have the demos and shows done by the end of september. then, we plan to take a month or so off for birthdays, sleeping, BSG, side projects and more sleeping. i guess the only real news is that we've been talking to jason martin from the amazing band, starflyer 59 about recording some of our new material with him. maybe even our "under the milky way" cover. so...get out to one or all of the upcoming shows before we go into hibernation again.
06-26-2007 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ here is a list of current places you can buy "cassette" - our favorites...itunes...cdbaby and...payplay...music is here...tradebit finally our own store.
05-18-2007 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
05-17-2007 check out our new promotional photo. ++++<deleted link>++++ taken once again by daniel kopton.
05-09-2007 big news today. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 2. pez has decided that he is in need of a break from the day to day grind of allegra gellar to focus on his other band, these orphaned eyes. we fully support him and wish him the best in his endeavors. 3. we are excited to announce that our worries about replacing pez in the live band and promotion for "cassette" were short lived. after his presence at the last allegra gellar show at the silverlake lounge rekindled friendship and communication, denver bon has decided to return to the band. we are all very excited to have him back. denver will obviously be playing bass, but look for some return of his guitar stylings also with a new live version of our favorite "make-up artist" track and existential theme song, "read nausea again"! 4. "cassette" is now available on itunes...
04-06-2007 the website has been re-thought and cleaned up. i discovered that the last version, being created on a 12" powerbook sort of sucked when viewed on real monitors. this one should translate better for everyone...well, i can't promise it works on a PC since i no longer have any access to PCs...nor a real desire to look at or touch one. "cassette" is in the process of duplication. we'll have copies so very soon. george and i are going to start rehearsing this weekend. olive has been learning how to beat on metal and skin in time with all of our machines. pez is busy playing with T.O.E. george has also wrapped up his first "other also" ep and is gathering artwork for that. looks to be a busy year for us...
02-10-2007 so, we vanished for a LONG time. but, we're back. the new record is within days of completion. it's called CASSETTE. here is the track listing - 1. even the color green will leave the last track will only be available on itunes. when it's all said and done. posted and proded. we'll be playing some record release shows in LA...most likely not touring - because, well, it's not nearly as fun or as profitable as make-up or retouching. that's the sad truth. what else? nothing...turn on CNN to hear about the death of anna nicole smith and other bullshit that isn't really news...we're out of your face for another couple weeks.
05-18-2006 we're in the studio. slowly turning out a new record. sounds and songs are beginning to take shape. there is no working title, but this will be the completion of a trilogy. the new record completes and lays to bed many of the themes developed on "the make-up artist" and "where ive been has faded". so far tracks included might be - even the color green will leave, hollywood is wierd, travel goes in circles, rock idle, on richard's guitar, a song for stacy boatright's broken wrist, the more i sleep, light from cakes, friends that change coats, and funeral. (***update 04/06/07***) <what happened to some of these tracks that are no longer on "cassette"? - "funeral" became a fucking great underwater song. "friends that change coats" has become a stillifegaijin track available for licensing. "the more i sleep" has been reworked and renamed, "trying to get hurt" - so, it's actually on the record. and "the light from cakes" has been put to sleep.>
02-26-2006 we're taking a break. going away for awhile. we each have some very important issues to mull over about our goals, careers, and relationships. right now it doesn't seem practical to coninue moving forward with allegra gellar until each member is in a better position to focus and devote themselves to the band. we will continue to update these pages and keep everyone informed regarding all of our activities, including allegra gellar, rhodeislandmusic, the bellevue collective, and more...goodnight. sleep well.
12-03-2005 the tour is over. it was absolutely amazing. we made new friends and became closer to old ones. we remembered why we play music...because we love it. so, now we're home and we're taking a few minutes off from music to clear our heads. then, on to mixing that rhodeislandmusic record. also, we are adding t-shirts to our online store. 2 designs...good stuff. finally, pez is recording some solo material while george and i are taking some time to work on new-old rhodeislandmusic material w/ josh and sarah for a bit. allegra gellar will not play any live shows in december. we probably won't even practice together. but, we should be doing a couple of bellevue collective events in january. we promise to tell you...for now, let our throats enjoy the break from vocal emoting. |
